Ch. Farakh Shahzad-Making new mistakes

New Year, in fact, is a time to determine to make new mistakes. The idea is not bad if you are not ‘overcooking’ it by taking liberty to continuing the old mistakes parallel to the new ones. Making a mistake twice is enough justification to continue it thrice and so on. The theory may defeat your value and worth to grow in life. Therefore, ‘new mistakes only’ is the rule of the game.

There is no hard and fast rule in life to achieve the desired objectives. A recipe of success, at the end of the day, may turn out to be a formula of failures. On the contrary, the principle of trial and error may be a better approach in the complex chemistry of our daily chores. This is the way we can learn from our mistakes and make corrections in accordance with the demands of nature of things. We are battling in ‘the Snake and Ladder’ in our practical lives. One earnestly needs to push his mind and muscles into action to take on the specific situation which is as diverse as our finger prints. The victory belongs to those who have a sense to transform the snakes into ladders or translate challenges into opportunities or turning stone-walls into bridges. Consequently, this may visibly change thorns into roses, pains into pleasures, wounds into healings and frustrations into hope.

A resolution is simply a new attempt to solve an old problem.  It’s approaching something in a new light or from a different angle.  If your new solution doesn’t work, all you have to do is re-solve it again.  It’s not failure; it’s the need for another attempt, another solution, another time. All that is required is that you must be so strong that nothing disturbs your peace of mind. It is possible only if you believe in the sunny side of things. To that end, you have to re-program your mind and heart to the fact that there is no one conspiring against you and the whole world is on your side so long as your stance is true. It is a universal truth that even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise once again. The future is pregnant with light and glory. If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it.

Why we make New Year resolutions? There are as many answers as the number of human beings on the planet. The one common thread among them all is that we all wish to review our attitude towards our on-going days and nights. The reason New Year’s Resolutions seem so powerful is the blank leaves of 365 page book spreading before us. In the beginning, every one of us attempts to keep his year book as neatly and methodically arranged as possible but this state of mind doesn’t exist for long.  All the words of wisdom start leaving us one by one as the heavy spell of new year virtue is smashed by our first foul. Self-confidence is a flock of fowls perched on a tree on riverside. If one of them opts to fly, all of them will disappear suddenly.

Every time you decide to live deliberately, you begin living a better life. You are the best judge to pin point the weaker aspect of your personality. Nobody else is more informed than you to decide where to start the inner revamp, repair and upgrade your in-built system making it more compatible to dynamic life.  The exercise will surely set into motion a mechanism of monitoring, control and channelize your untapped potentials in a more productive fashion.

My perception about the New Year is that I have got another extension to fulfil the unfinished things of the past before I run out of time. One more year, once again to right some wrongs before the road ends. There are people who over-stuff their large bundle of New Year resolutions. This often become a wild goose chase due to number and nature of the overstretched set of diverse resolution list. The balloon is bust soon due to obvious reasons.

Write it on your heart that today is the best day of the year and it is a right time to take a fresh look at life leading to have a fresh start. It is a time to confess your mistakes and celebrate your triumphs.

The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a 365 page book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals which are not un-natural and pursuit of their achievement lies within the range of possibilities and imminence.

Make New Year's goals. Dig within, and discover what you would like to have happen in your life this year. This helps you do your part. It is an affirmation that you're interested in fully living life in the year to come. Goals give us direction. They put a powerful force into play on a universal, conscious, and subconscious level. Goals give our life direction.

The tradition of setting New Year resolutions worldwide is a saga of broken promises and un-kept pledges. But it does not mean that one should give up at failures. Aborted or antiquated resolutions deserve an unbiased revisit. So this is a time to recycle your old resolutions through an insight analysis of the reasons behind your debacles.

A half-hearted approach to rectify your strategies is as bad as walking out of the philosophy of making a resolution. The game plan in your mind is nothing until it has an exposure to the outside world of tangible realities. As the trees are shedding their yellow leaves in order to replace them with greener one, it is time to write on your heart that todays is the first day of the rest of your life.
